Explore Shale with PSU Explore Shale is a resource explaining the shale energy hydraulic fracturing process. It is a service provided by Penn State Public Broadcasting.

Marcellus Center for Outreach & Research
The Pennsylvania State University's center dealing with shale energy in Pennsylvania research and outreach.

UCEAO - Shale Energy Working GroupUCEAO - Shale Energy Working Group
The Shale Working Group of the University Clean Energy Alliance of Ohio is developing a set of guiding principles on shale gas exploration and extraction. These principles will direct the work of UCEAO in advocating for public policy, research, educational programming, and commercialization strategies.

Gas Drilling Impacts on Water Quality
OSU Extension's Joe Bonnell, watershed management, interviewed Bryan Swistock at Penn State about gas drilling impacts on water quality.

The Impact of Marcellus Gas Drilling on Rural Drinking Water Supplies

A study by researchers at Penn State Univ. at the request of the Center for Rural Pennsylvania, this research looked to provide an unbiased and large-scale study of water quality in private water wells in rural Pennsylvania before and after the drilling of nearby Marcellus Shale gas wells.
Preliminary results of a University of Texas study on hydraulic fracturing indicate the process itself does not appear to contaminate drinking water, but that fracturing sites may have a higher incidence of surface problems that can occur with any type of drilling.
OSU Extension's Clif Little offers suggestions for landowners faced with the decision to lease farmland for oil and gas production.

Ohio State's Amanda Weinstein and Mark Partridge authored this report on shale energy's impact on Ohio's economy.
Research study focused on the economic impact and opportunities associated with the development of oil and gas resources in the Utica Shale.
